Job Description

As a Direct Support Professional (DSP), you would be working directly with our clients in their homes and within the West Saint Paul and Twin Cities communities.

Some of the types of work that you may do in your role as a DSP may include:

Community Participation

  • Shopping with the client

  • Running errands with the client

  • Taking client to activities (entertainment, social events, etc.)

  • Companionship

  • Help clients to have fun and enjoy life


Health Care Advocate

  • Helping the client understand their health benefits and the waiver system

  • Scheduling appointments

  • Advocating for the client when going to doctor appointments

  • Assisting the client in following through with doctor recommendations

  • Assisting the client in overcoming chronic and acute issues by suggesting specialized doctor visits to treat issues, helping the client track progress, and helping the client coordinate care among doctors

 

Financial Advocate

  • Assisting the client in remembering to pay bills

  • Helping client explore and understand their financial options as well as filling out any necessary paperwork and talking to financial professionals

  • Assisting client in developing a budget

 

Household Management

  • Assisting client in meal-planning and nutrition

  • Assisting the client in making/cooking meals

  • Assisting client with household maintenance

  • Light cleaning

  • Declutter and organizing

 

Activities of Daily Living (ADL)
(Most of our clients are highly independent, however they may need assistance with ADLs from time to time due to an acute condition.)

  • Assisting with bathing/showering, grooming, nail care, and oral care.

  • Assisting with dressing and undressing.

  • Assisting in preparing food and eating.

  • Assisting with toileting and cleaning
